Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi Still Up For Spider-Man 4?

It seems there may be hope that Sam Raimi, director of all three "Spider-Man" films, and Tobey Maguire will return to spearhead another Spider-Man adventure.

Recently it was reported that J.K. Simmons, who plays Jonah Jameson in the films, said that Tobey Maguire would be "amenable to doing some more." Meanwhile, he himself would like to get the cast back together and make more of them. (Though he did note that if Raimi weren't involved in some way he might have to reconsider his options.) Regardless, it's nice to see some hope that Maguire would come back to the red and blue tights. It's equally exciting to hear Simmons wanting to return as well.

Meanwhile, Sam Raimi is really anticipating the finished script for the fourth movie from James Vanderbilt who recently wrote a treatment that calls for two movies to be filmed back-to-back. Raimi told SciFi Wire:

“I’m excited to read it. I’m hoping it’s as great as our discussions were about it and hoping it feels right for me, because I love Spider-Man, and I’m hoping I’m well-enough rested to, like, really embrace it and hoping that Sony wants me at that time to direct it. So if all those things come together, I would love, love to do it. But this is a lot of unknowns about the future.”

Funny. I recalled him being not to enthusiastic about doing a sequel not too long ago. And with a better screenwriter giving him the script (the guy who wrote "Zodiac" anyone?) how could he not love it? I hope this is a sign of good things to come, all the major players returning and another good Spider-Man adventure to see. Time will tell.

Director Jon Favreau on "Iron Man 2" and "The Avengers"

It seems the direction Marvel Studios is going with their superhero line-up is set in stone, but what to do about them is another story. Jon Favreau, director of "Iron Man," has stated that the sequel will probably not follow the acclaimed "Message in a Bottle" storyline where Tony Stark's alcoholism sends him in to a downward spiral of pain-- Both internally and externally.

Favreau makes the point that much of the same imagery is apparently in "Hancock." Such a storyline revolving around "Iron Man" in 2010 may look like a copy to general film goers. It's a good point, but this is still a story I'd like to see. Non-the-less, Favreau insists there are plenty of stories surrounding the Iron Man mythos that can be brought to the big screen:

"There are a lot of different approaches you could take." says Favreau, " Hopefully we end up going for a sequel that is going to be bigger and better than the first one. That’s not always the case with sequels. Sometimes you end up trying to do just rush, and hit a release date. Hopefully this sequel will be driven by the material and driven by good ideas."

Meanwhile, the man spoke briefly about "The Avengers" movie in which all the Marvel heroes team up. He's said before he would like to direct an Avengers film, but with the short time span between "Iron Man 2's" release date and "The Avengers" it seems quite impossible. (2010 and 2011 respectively.) A single year to make an Avengers film? Not likely. Still, I'm glad to hear that Favreau would like to tackle a sequel. "Iron Man 2" needs him.

"Transformers 2" Gets a Title

It is now official that the title for the "Transformers" sequel is "Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen." As much as I disliked the first movie, the title of the sequel is pretty cool. I keep wondering if I'll like the sequel at all now that I've accepted that the Transformers will, in fact, look like over-designed hunks of scrap metal plugged together with insectoid heads. Possible for me to enjoy? Yes. Likely? No.

"Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen" rolls out June 2009.

New "Hellboy II" Poster

And it's kind of lame... Why do these posters portray Liz as some sensual sex machine? Okay. She's hot, but it's way out of character to have her in these overly badass/sexy promotional shots. She's just not the type. Tacky poster...

New "Potter" Photos

For my dear love: Here's a couple new photos from the upcoming "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." I don't think I'll put the spoiler warning up for this one, but it's been awhile since we've received Harry Potter news, so I thought it was worth a look.

This November.
