Lost's Doctor Goes To Race Speed

Lost's Matthew Fox, who plays Jack Shepherd on the show, is going to play "Racer X" in the new live action Speed Racer film. The film stars Emile Hirsch as Speed. Other cast members include Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon and John Goodman. The film is due next year and directed by The Matrix Trilogy directors, and "V for Vendetta" writers, the Wachowski Brothers.
Very intersting casting. Lots of big names, with Hirsch not really being one of them. I'm a bit more excited about the movie due to the casting alone. It looks like Fox is really hoping to expand his career from Lost. And John Goodman? Haven't seen him in awhile.

Lack of Updating - Quick Updates

Yeah, I have not done it in awhile. Part of it has to do with the fact that not much has really interested me. The other part is I've had a great deal of work to take care of over the last few days and my computer was down on Monday, so I had to catch up with it.
Anywho. Lets go over some major things that have happened.

THE INCREDIBLE HULK UPDATE -
Edward Norton of "Fight Club" fame will play Bruce Banner/The Hulk in the Hulk movie said to not have anything to do with the Ang Lee film. Very unexpected I must say, but he certianly fits the part-- If not better than Eric Bana did.

THE DARK KNIGHT BEGINS FILMMING -
Lots of reports have come in from Chicago stating how filmming for The Dark Knight is taking place at an office or a bank or something like that. No doubt a chace seen is or will be filmed there as well due to the batmobile sightings.

NEW TRANSFORMERS STANDEE -

WOLFMAN ACTORS ATTACK -
Oscar nominated actors Anthony Hopkins and Benicio Del Toro have been cast in a retelling of the Wolfman mythos directed by Mark Romanek. For a very uninteresting sounding movie (as if we haven't been here before) it sure has a nice cast!

SHIA "WILL" BE INDIANA'S SON -
As it turns out Shia LeBouef will bein the fourth Indiana Jones movies as Indy's son. Though previously it was announced as false information and Shia denied having been contacted about the project, it looks like Lucasfilm worked quickly to remedy that. Shia will in fact be in Indy's fourth adventure.

IRONMAN SUIT REVEALED
Ironman's "Mark 1" suit has been revealed recently. Though I know this isn't the final suit in the film, it's kind of...cheesy looking. We'll see how it looks in action though. Click to enlarge.


RICK O'CONNER RETURNS WITHOUT HIS WIFE
It's confirmed that Brendan Fraiser will return for the third Mummy film, but Rachel Weisz will not be with him sadly. This comes as very disappointing news and is already a huge let down for fans of these rather fun, cheesy films.

Hollywood, Stop Remaking Movies - The Day the Earth Stood Still

One of the greatest sci-fi classics will be remade into special effects schlock. "The Day the Earth Stood Still". The original film tells the story of an alien man who comes to warn Earth (with his robot) of a great danger. The visitor is met with skeptisism and suspicion and as a result discovers Earth to be a planet of violent beings...so he escapes and leaves for good.
The movie was one of the first to take sci-fi seriously and primarily a heavy drama. The film is just another oen of those that doesn't need to be remade. It's not suppose to be a special effects extravaganza, but a dramatic look at the darker side of man. Scott Derrickson ("The Exorcism of Emily Rose"...UGH!) will direct the film for a May 9, 2008 release.

"Get Smart" Pic and New Info

Well here it is. Carell as Maxwell Smart and Hathaway as Agent 99. I admit I expected Carell to be more made up. He looks a little too..."The Office" than he does Max Smart.
Peter Segal announced that while the original show was a satire on the Cold War, this movie will be a satire that shows, "the disconnect between government agencies as we saw right after 9/11 when the CIA and FBI weren't really communicating."

The films' story centers on Max Smart trying to stop KAOS, (the villianous agency from the original show) which is threatening the United States to give away launch codes for nuclear weapons to "bad guys". The movie is also the origin story of Smart and how Agent 99 teaches him the ropes.

I hope this ends up well. I don't really like the whole origin story angle. I don't recall the show all that well, but wasn't part of the humor the fact that Max is suppose to be this "expert" and Agent 99 ends up bailing him out of everything? Well, I like the casting and it has potential. But my expectations for it just dropped a few notches. The story "sounds" too dark; but I can see that being fixed up... Of course, "Stranger Than Fiction" and "Thank You for Smoking" were dark, but also two of the funniest movies in awhile. I'll cross my fingers.

A "Different" Kind of Superhero Film

David Goyer plans on making a Green Arrow film, but not the type you'd expect. Apparently he will only be Green Arrow for the first ten minutes of the film and then we find ourselves dealing with a very different kind of movie that Goyer calls, "Super Max". Goyer gave details on his script:

“He’s Green Arrow for the first 10 minutes of the movie, and then he’s arrested and his secret identity is revealed. They shave his goatee and they take his costume and send him to prison for life, and he has to escape. It’s like ‘Alcatraz,’ and he has to team up with, in some cases, some of the very same villains he is responsible for incarcerating in order to get out and clear his name. Of course, tons of people try to kill him while he’s in there. We’ve populated the prison with all sorts of B and C villains from the DC Universe. For the fans, there will be all sorts of characters the hardcore comic book junkies will know, but they’re all going to be there under their human names and no one is wearing a costume, but there will be a lot of characters with powers and things like that.”

A movie about a superhero put in prison to team up with the very villians he put there in order to prove he's not guilty? Ok, so the concept itself has been done before, but the players could make this very interesting, I like the idea of a superhero movie that's not really about the hero's origins or personal troubles of being a hero. We've done that 100 times already. A person becomes a hero. He has trouble accepting his life as one, but in the end he realizes it's for the best! We get the point. This concept sounds much, MUCH more interesting. I hope it takes off.

TRAILER - "Halloween"

In the long list of films that are anticipated for no good reason, Rob Zombie's remake of "Halloween" is one of them...sadly. The teaser trailer for this sure-fire abomination has finally been released. I find this rather sad. John Carpenter's original "Halloween" was a slasher flick masterpiece. The most effective of its time...maybe ever. I hate slasher flicks, but Carpenter gave us a character that was so grounded in reality that it was hard to not believe Myers was "true" evil. (Unlike the endless sequels which gave us a character too supernatural to believe...) But the first film was fantastic. The second was pretty good too, even if that set up the series for a slow downfall.
Anyway, here's Rob Zombie's take on the masterpiece...



And sadly, I can see myself paying to see this... Why Carpenter would allow this is beyond me. August, it opens. (Why not open on Halloween?)

Does DiCaprio Have a Life?

It's not slam him or anything, I'm just curious. The guy is a fantastic actor, but it seems like he doesn't do anything BUT act with a few lunch, bathroom and nap breaks thrown in. Maybe it's just me. Whatever...

Anyway, DiCaprio is in talks with Warner Bros. to be in Ridley Scott's adaptation of the novel "Body of Lies" by David Ignatius. DiCaprio will play a CIA agent, and ex-journalist, who is sent hunt down an Al Qaeda leader planning an attack on American soil. He sould be on board with the film this fall.

Now for those of you wondering what all Leo is doing right now, here's an extensive list:

Potentially, that's eight movies on DiCaprio's plate. He's a great actor as we've seen from his last two films especially, so DiCaprio fans will get their fill with all this. He'll have a lot of chances at the Academy Awards, that's for sure... Perhaps he's decided to not do some of these, but there's been no mention of that. In the meantime, let's expect to see Leo in a lot of different roles coming up real soon.

Beating a Dead Shark With a Stick... "Jaws 5"

"Jurassic Park" sequels I'm ok with because Spielberg is behind them and they'll be brought to theaters without being made a mockery of. But it is apparent that Spielberg has no control over the Jaws franchise...

I couldn't give the people worse news than this. And I'm late with it too... The moviehole has announced that Universal and their infinite number of dumbasses have decided to try and make a fifth Jaws movie. To make it worse...they want it to be direct-to-DVD. (That's why I was emphasising on Jurassic Park sequels being in theaters.)

Apparently an "unnamed" screenwriter was approached to do this film. The screenwriter pitches the idea of ignoring "Jaws 3" and "Jaws The Revenge" and making a direct sequel to the first two movies. His idea was to introduce Brody as an old man with his family moved away and wife dead. Another Shark returns to terrorize the beaches of Amity and his life gets pulled together to take on the shark. Not a terrible idea if there were to be a sequel. Universal's response? Right here:
"It sounds dark!" "It sounds unmarketable in the avenue we're considering!"

So Universal's blockheads begin describing the audience intended for direct-to-video marketing:
"...the straight-to-DVD market being for the teens and primarily young males/females and that they were wanting to focus more on that. One guy says 'You know? Teens in peril? That sort of thing?'"

Uh...does anyone remember "JAWS F@%#ing 2"? Apparently Warner is trying to make direct-to-DVD sequels to "The Deep Blue Sea" and this is why Universal wants to compete here. I think this is ridiculous. The first film is probably the greatest horror film of all time. A masterpiece that has yet to be duplicated. It has three bad sequels and the last one finished it off. Why do we need a sequel worse than the fourth movie? Wait. Money! That's right! Forgot. This is absurd. The dumbest news I've read yet. Lets all get on our knees and pray to Jesus Christ (or whoever you pray too) to make sure this doesn't happen. We don't need another Jaws. Direct-to-DVD or otherwise! Let it go Warner.

"Jurassic Park IV" is Defying Extinction

Laura Dern, who played Ellie Sattler in "Jurassic Park" and "Jurassic Park III", reported that the fourth film in the Jurassic Park series may finally be rolling.

Laura Dern recently got information from Steven Spielberg, "I'm told it's happening and I'm told they're calling me. I'm told that Ellie Sattler is involved in it."

When asked if she was interesting in returning to the series she responded, "it's hard to say no to [Spielberg] cause he's always got something totally genius up his sleeve so we'll see what they have in mind. But I don't know anything about it at this point."

Furthermore she stated they might start getting things rolling with this film for a 2008 release. I think that's a really, really big "might". I'd be surprised if we saw this movie in 2009. Oddly enough I'm not opposed to this. Spielberg said he wanted it to become a long running franchise. I think it'd be cool to have a fun, long running series like James Bond and Godzilla out of Jurassic Park. "Fun" is the reason these films are made, so why not? Dinosaurs terrorizing people sounds a lot more interesting than an "Underdog" movie; or another washed up marvel superhero to be made in to an unwatchable exercise of horrible filmmaking. Bring back T-Rex!
