"Ghost Rider 2?" Oh no...

With movies like these continuously being announced you would think it was some sort of sign of the apocalypse. However, we're still here. So I shudder to think of how much worse a movie will have to be than "Ghost Rider" and "30 Days of Night" to alert us of our doom.

Perhaps it will be the sequel to "Ghost Rider?" Nicolas Cage recently announced that "Ghost Rider 2" was in the works and heading toward Euorpe! (Oh yes! 'Cause different locations mean something radically different from the last one.)

The man compared Johnny Blaze's new story to "The DaVinci Code." (Did anyone keep they're eyes from rolling at that one? Just checking!) Johnny will be connected with the church in some way and have to connect with various religions in the next movie. No word on any villains or anything, but it sounds he's pretty serious about the project.

I find the concept of the Ghost Rider interesting, even if I think "HellBoy" has done it better. But Nic Cage seems to be only interested in doing half-assed action flicks and if the sequel is going to be anything like the first movie, it's a lost cause.

Two-Face's Official End

SPOILER ALERT: If for some reason beyond human understanding you have not seen "The Dark Knight" and do not want to be spoiled, do not read this.

There seems to have been a lot of confusion based on the ending of "The Dark Knight." The incredible film left some fanboys believing that the film's hero-turned-antagonist was still alive after Batman crashed in to him to save Gordon's son.

For those hoping Two-Face's death was a cover-up and he may appear in the next film, buckle up-- Cause he ain't getting up according to Aaron Eckhart. Superherohype ambushed him at a premiere for the following scoop:

CS/SHH!: Is Harvey Dent alive?
Aaron Eckhart: No. He is dead as a door nail.

CS/SHH!: So he's not coming back?
Eckhart: He ain't coming back baby!

CS/SHH!: I was hoping he would.
Eckhart: No. I asked Chris [Nolan] that question and he goes, "You're dead" before I could even get the question out of my mouth. "Hey Chris, am I?" "You're dead!" Alright, cool.

CS/SHH!: That's not a problem in comic book movies. You could still come back.
Eckhart: I think in contract negotiations it's a problem.

CS/SHH!: So you were never signed on for another film?
Eckhart: No, I'm not coming back. I think unfortunately, Heath [Ledger] was supposed to go on and that didn't work out. I'm nobody. I'm a cog. I have no say over this sort of stuff. I'm sure that there's so many other characters that they could whip together. I heard Angelina Jolie was going to be Catwoman or something like that. I thought that was a great idea. I'd like to be in that one.

CS/SHH!: It must be gratifying that so many people responded to your character.
Eckhart: Yeah, I dig it. Write your Congressman. I like that for the first time in my career I'm getting fan mail from kids and 8-year-olds. "My name is Bill. I really liked the film." I've never had that before. I think that's fun. I think someone told me they're going to be Harvey Two-Face for Halloween which is cool. I said to two kids the other day, "Did you see Batman yet?" Then I come to find out like two seconds later they've seen it four times. People are really going back to see it. My parents saw it I think 12 [times] so far. They're sick that it's going out of the theaters.

I didn't think he was alive by the end of the movie. Frankly, I think bringing him back for a third would be a cop-out. Yes, it is sad that Two-Face didn't get a lot of screen time, but I was totally happy that his character was fulfilled. (Which is far more than I can say for Venom in "Spider-Man 3.") I'm very much okay that he's gone for good.

Well that was fun. I for one really liked the movie. I wouldn't call it a comedy classic, but the winning consensus fits the mold pretty well. For those who have yet to see it, go.

Voltron's Director

Not too long ago it was revealed that a "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" movie was in the works. Well the movie seems to be diving right in to pre-production and a director has already been chosen for the film.

Director Max Makowski will be heading the project. He's mostly known for his indie flick, "Taboo," and "One Last Dance," an action/comedy/romance stacked with a strong asian cast. Kind of an odd choice for "Voltron," but hey, I would've said the same for Christopher Nolan and Batman a few years ago. Although... Does it bug anyone that he did direct episodes of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy?" Hmm.

In any case, I'm far more eager to see this movie than I was when it was originally announced. Makowski seems to be a diamond in a rough, if his track record holds true.

Facebook: The ... Movie

Title says it all... Writer Aaron Sorkin ("Charlie Wilson's War" ...go figure?) created a facebook account and announced on a facebook group, in which he created, that he was going to be writing a script based on facebook's rise as an internet power.

"Wait," you say. "This could be a prank by some random person on facebook!" That's what I thought too. However, Sony did confirm to Vulture that the movie was moving forward with Aaron Sorkin writing the script and Scott Rudin producing. (To show how insane it is that this man is producing, he was also the producer for "No Country for Old Men," and "There Will Be Blood.")

Want "Dark Knight" Sequel News?

Sadly you won't find much of it for awhile, so you'll have to find a way to stay amused by tabloid rumors of Angelina Jolie and Cher playing Catwoman.

Warner Brothers is certainly eager to green-light a third film, but, for a change, a studio is being smart and waiting for the films' creators. Currently Christopher Nolan is on a much deserved break after making "Batman Begins," "The Prestige" and "The Dark Knight" right in a row. Warner Brothers won't move forward with anything until Christopher Nolan and his brother, writer Jonathan Nolan, come back with some new ideas.

So basically nothing has happened with a Batman sequel. Warner Brothers has, rightfully, decided to wait for the Nolans to come back with something and take time with the next project. That certainly makes me feel more comfortable than how I feel about the "Iron Man" sequel, which is being fast-tracked to a 2010 release.

I love how Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Wahlberg will talk smack about "The Dark Knight" to get fan boys ranting at each other and yet everyone from the Batman crew stay quiet and humble. It seems everyone knows what was the great, standout movie of this summer.

Take as much time as you need Nolans. I'll gladly wait eight years for a great movie, than two years for a mediocre one.

Superman's Fate: Rebooting?

I've been getting really sick of reporting on Superman just because it seems like Warner Brothers doesn't know what to do with him. However, I shouldn't complain to deeply about that. Warner Brothers seems to have taken a lot of consideration on what to do with the material they own. I liked "Superman Returns," but it wasn't what everyone wanted and Warner Brothers was disappointed in its performance. But I get the idea that they don't want to release just mindless schlock. (i.e. 20th Century Fox)

Warner Brothers' Jeff Robinov, who has pushed the DC material into a much deeper rooted and grittier way of telling stories, has said this to the Wall Street Journal:

"'Superman' didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to. It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned. Had 'Superman' worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009. But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all."

So it does sound like Superman will be rebooted. (Shame, because I wanted a sequel to the "Superman Returns" storyline.) On top of that, Warner Brothers plans to release more DC material in the coming years; but rather than plowing out as many superhero movies as they can, like Marvel, Warner Brothers wants to focus on fewer movies and spend time on making those epic enough for audiences. This will no doubt include a "Batman 3" and "Superman" reboot.

With that said I doubt Bryan Singer will return for Superman. I'm sure he's still attached to it in some way, but from what I can tell Warner Brothers wants to bring Superman in a new direction and that will mean bringing new blood in to the franchise. So. Who do you think it should be?

Bond Pushed Back One Week

The more I think about it, the more I realize that my comment about how Harry Potter 6 was moved due to the next Bond movie was as silly as it was stupid. That said, it looks like those behind Bond believe they can rack up more money mid-November. "Quantum of Solace" has been moved from November 7th, to November 14th. Hey, at least it isn't pushed back half a year! Not terrible news. After stuff like "Star Trek," "Dragonball" and "Harry Potter" being pushed back like they have, is one week really going to kill us? I'm cool with it.

Getting "Goosebumps?"

I truthfully can not say I saw this coming. Columbia Pictures are in talks with Larry Karaszewski ("Man on the Moon," "1408") and Scott Alexander to write the screenplay for a big screen adaptation of the R.L. Stine book series turned 90's kids television program, "Goosebumps." Neil Moritz will be producing.

Interesting move. Moritz has said his plan is to hire well known, young actors for the role, but does this mean he's planning on a full series with these same actors? The "Goosebumps" series are mostly standalone stories-- They're "The Twilight Zone" for the younger minded and only a few books got actual sequels if I recall correctly. Will Karaszewski and Alexander go "The Twilight Zone Movie" route and select a few stories to tell separately? Or will the entire movie be it's own original storyline and simply use the "Goosebumps" title as a draw?

I read several when I was much younger and enjoyed them then, but I can't recall if they're the type of material that could/should be adapted to film, or if the writers should just take the movie down their own creative path. I want to say the former because using the series "in-name-only" feels wrong. If it's "Goosebumps" it should be based on "Goosebumps," should it not?

The writers should seal their deal within a week.

More "Shatner in Star Trek?" Mulling

The biggest question for J.J. Abrams' new "Star Trek" has been, "Is Shatner in it?" It seems like a miss-opportunity to not have him in it and I've said from the beginning that he's probably in the movie. As of recent, Shatner has been appearing on these hysterical web-interviews explaining how he's hurt that he's not in the new Star Trek.

I say hysterical because I firmly believe he's putting on for the press and fandom. He knows how rabid and absurd Star Trek fans are and he's fully aware of how little news sites and broken down, under-viewed blogs eat this stuff up. (Welcome to my world kids.)

That said, this latest, miniscule hint will probably send fans, nerds, me, the press...etc... stirring the Shatner pot again. Clifton Collins Jr. who plays a romulan, supposedly next to Eric Bana, has revealed the following:

There is, but I better not say," Collins said of possible big-star cameos. "There are certain things that as kids growing up, whether it's Star Trek or other shows at the time, all you got to do is really just hear their voice and your heart warms."
Asked if he was referring to characters and actors from the original television series, Collins simply smiled and said, "Maybe."

Certain voices? Original series cast? It must be Shatner!!! We all want to scream together. Surely this will seal the deal for some basement dwellers. I'm already pretty confident he'll be in the movie; but for those who aren't, by all means, masturbate at the following evidence.
